I Know These Aren't What They Appear To Be...
... But, what about the case?! Looks nice enough to justify the cost right there. ??

The case does justify the current price...if no one bids against you.

Thanked: 44of course most won't buy one of those chinese specials. But it lists 440 steel. And because I don't forge my own razors, my question is: is 440 steel hard enough to take an edge on a razor?

Thanked: 1936You may also be able to use the scales off of it. I've never seen one of the veteran razor makers use this steel, so take that with some thought...

Thanked: 247I will suggest that the case might be far flimsier than you might think.
It could be nice though...not sure.

I saw one of these or one very similar in an Antique Shop here locally but they wanted $25 each... Essentially it is a knife that just has the look of a razor. They are much bigger than a standard razor. But, I'll have to take one of my razors in and compare the scales. Might be able to canabililze for parts but the scales were probably 3x thicker than standard razor scales IIRC.
I didn't pay much attention to that case other than to notice it was nicely padded and some sort of vinyl.
This Ad and another I've been watching are just Buy It Now so the price won't change.
Just wondering what everyone though of about the case... I'd seen some various cases but all closer to $20-$25.

Thanked: 458It may or may not be, but isn't 440 steel what friodur razors are ultimately made of? They get a cryogenic treatment, though, which makes a significant difference on steel with a lot of carbides.
You'd have to know for sure what the carbon content of the 440 was, looking at an alloy chart and max attainable hardness, there are definitely 440s that are capable of razor use (google tells me that 440C is what is in friodurs).
