I just got my copy in today, I thought I was spending too much on razors already but this thing has given me expensive ideas. Richie and Stewarts Standard Guide to Straight Razors was bad enough but this guy must have spent a fortune. He made the mistake of putting his email address in the front cover so I think I may hit him up and see where he does his shopping. I peruse quite a few estate auctions and most of the internet resources but I haven't seen 90% of whats in this book on the open market before. Amazing read!

So just an update, I was able to email the author and got a quick reply back. Apparently he collects safety razors and is big into restorations. He gets trades for safety razors as payment sometimes and that's where the majority of that collection came from. So a shame that he isn't as passionate about straights as the rest of us but glad he decided to publish those for us. I haven't seen any other examples of some of those pieces online or anywhere else.

The book is fantastic. Nearly all stub tails and amazing sets, carved ivory and pearl scales. It did not in any way spur my RAD. You'd have to be a rich man to afford the razors in that book.

I guess to clarify my earlier post, the author restores old antiques and does appraisals in the UK so ends up with a lot of these razors as trades for his work. Not sure if that makes it worse or better.

That is the type of thing I was talking about when I said it would take a rich man to own the stuff he has in that book. I didn't realize just how much one of those sets might be worth though. I had never seen that type of case/set before I got the book.
