    Default ebay horror

I like to bet on items with low input prices on my side... so that I'm almost certain I don't win the item. Tonight I made a big mistake: I had to go to take a pee badly... was in a hurry and mixed up the dots with a comma! (or the other way around... I don't know anymore...)
After confirming my bid I noticed (still before going to the toilet) I made a bid of over 3000 dollar!

You can imagine I had the most hard minutes waiting for this auction to end! (I was really affraid this was some sort of complot and the seller was aware of my bid... and I would have to pay at least 3000 dollar... and if I could not - which I can't btw - they would have the Law on me...)
And what was the end all about? I'll have to pay 91,= dollar for a Henckels I wouldn't have bid on that much in the first place!

Real hard learning lesson on ebay to be at my computer when bidding on ebay and I have other urgent things to do...
Damn hope this razor is worth it

In that circumstance, Michel, you can withdraw your bid. That's one of the things ebay specifically mentions (entering a 3000 bid instead of a 30.00 bid). You just have to re-enter the lower bid immediately.

I guess its to late for that now... as the auction is at his end... and I already contacted the seller...
I really am ashamed of myselve... but it is good to know that you can correct it when the bidding is still on! If I understand correctly I can do a bidding again (lower) and ebay will list my lower price as my highest bid? Am I correct?

    thanks,
    michel

There's a specific link you have to click to retract your bid. It's all explained here - http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/bid-retract.html

Basically, though, you retract your bid, and then enter a new, lower one that you originally intended to put up.

Thanks Keith... I will certainly remember this (although I WILL be more cautious in the future...).
Seems thought, that even if you can withdraw your bid, you have to link up (and if you don't know what to do in that moment of panik, and the bidding is ending soon, and spend some time finding the right link doing that... you will still have a chance to pay a lot more than you planned on!

but really... thanks... I'll know at least where to search in the future if something similar might happen.

As my "eBay guru" told me the week before last, when I was writing-up the advert for my PowerMac/G4: "eBay isn't an auction site, it's a dating service." To which I replied: "Yeah, but I ain't paid for it since I was a GI."

So, $30, or $3,000 -- it's a question of how much pleasure you get from her... err, "it".

You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Here is another tip, if it is too late to retract your bid.

    A) Explain the problem and offer to pay the difference between your bid and the second chance bidder . I have allowed a winning bidder to do this!

    B) Offer to pay the listing fees and asked him to re-list it, I have done this one, avoided a strike and an item I couldn’t afford.

Another good reason to use a sniping program - you can retract bids anytime up to the last minute or so!
