Thread: So Im assuming the etcher of this blade is still with us?

Am I right in thinking this may be an original razor with new gold inlay on it? If not it is the most awesome wear resistant inlay i have ever seen.... or is the whole thing a fake?

M y take on it is that someone at some point in recent history applied some sort of colouring on the etching. The razor seems legit, just a weird fix up, mainly focused on the blade.

Looks fine to me. Someone else would know if they originally came like that, but you can do that with a gold application.

I've never seen gold wash on these razors and it somehow doesn't seem to match the condition of the rest of the blade. I'd speculate that somebody got the razor and decided to make it look nicer by applying the gold.
But there isn't anything german about the razor.

im with everybody else on this one. Looks like its had a gold wash put on it. But i have one of these razors and the markings are the same.

I would agree that someone applied the gold to the masonic etching long after that razor was made. Nice job they did of it too but it doesn't increase the value at all AFAIC. I'm wondering where the "German" comes in. Seller says it is a German etching so perhaps he "G" in the star might be what gives him that impression ? AFAIK that G might signify a 32nd degree mason. I think that is the symbol for that level of achievement in that organization but I might be wrong.

I'm not sure the inlay is even gold. It looks like yellow paint to me.

Agreed. masonic etch is original, coloration added to it to make it more visible, and they did a fine job of it, who ever it was, whenever it was.
