Antique Belgium Coticule Sharpening Stone Vintage Razor Hone Old Natural Stone | eBay
I am by no means knowledgeable, but it seems that the coticules I have seen look more "dense" (and of course on slate or BBW backer) this almost looks like sandstone.... any ideas? am I off my rocker?

Here are some coticules in the raw as it were. Not sure about that dirty old rock. I can't remember the thread but, the seller, mrsdeadhorse , or an item she was selling, has come up for examination here before IIRC.

Thanked: 116Jimmy, I also remember seeing this seller come under some scrutiny in the past for this exact example. I'd stay away.

Yup, that was sticking in the back of my head too.... could not find reference on the search i did, but I know of at least one seller that labels any tannish rock as a "coticle"..
Not interested in buying it As "I have all I need" but i like to surf the bay, and try to figure out what these old hones are by pictures... you know, kind of like crosswords for rock addicts....
Thanks for the info guys! Jim

That hone in the link is really dished out on both sides, it would need one heck of a lapping.
Aloha,

Thanked: 67I think that pic is from the Ardennes mine itself. Of course, I could be wrong and maybe that's Jimmy's cache.

Thanked: 0hahaah likely excuse for one with HAD.... "Look honey, its even on the Ardennes website, it IS NOT our garage!!!" followed by "My shelf has many more pavers on it, and I am going to build that walkway soon..."
Just another random thought, but can you imagine being TIRED of dealing with coticules and going home at the end of the day?!?! Wonder what those guys do for hobbies?Last edited by Autoc0cker07; 12-31-2012 at 12:10 AM. Reason: had a funny thought... (just one)
