Nice Ebay experience today
Scored some nice razor scales this morning, nobody sniped me or the other people who were bidding on some other scales.
Everybody behaved themselves and everybody won. Really nice way to start the New Year.
Cocobolo, Amboyna Burl and Buckeye Burl.

I saw that Amboyna burl and Buckeye burl and was tempted, but the last burl I got wasn't stabilized and was really fragile. It ended up snapping with the slightest pressure and of course it had to snap when I was done with the scales. Be careful it might be fragile.

Thanks for the info mate,
I've been buying knife scales off Rastaman for over a year now and never had any problems.
They are thicker than razor scales, so I guess there is more of a chance razor scales will break.
He does recommend that buyers stabilize them before working them though.
My other Ebay supplier is "Marlin", and he is fantastic. His wood is truly unique.
He will "work" with you and take on board suggestions and give amazing product.
He harvests all his wood himself and is great at knowing what his clients want.

There is one rather important difference - properly functioning razor scales flex, so there is an inherent stress as you use the razor.
You could use thin liners for added structural stability (still has to flex), but you have to be careful with the weight and the balance with the blade.

If you have to use a liner all the better cause that burl looks nice. I would be a shame to not use it. I actually got wood from him before cause it was already cut 1/8x1x6 and didn't take much to make a set of scales once it is already cut to size.
