update from the seller:
Yes, these blanks are ready for further treatment. Their tempering 58-59 HRC by Rockwell scale.
From Robert Williams:
Those blanks are heat treated and tempered and look like they may be fully finished. They should never be heated above 200 degrees again by polishing or anything else.

Thanked: 2209Excellent! Now you know, and don't have to guess.

I thought they looked like they still need final grinding, but I dunno.
I'm basing that off of the somewhat uneven grind they show, the sort of rough look of the grinds up towards the spine, and, also, I have never seen a finished Dorko with a fauxframeback type grind that those have.
But I dunno...

Thanked: 480I think what is being said is "These razors are finished (being heat treated)" not "these razors are finished(ready to go in scales)"
For the amount of labor involved in grinding out the final steps, I would hesitate at the current price points. But it would be a fun experiment non the less.

Thanked: 32From what I've seen I'd say those blanks are definitely not finish ground. Have seen some popping up on ebay with massive bevels at ridiculous prices. . To each their own I guess...

Here is the report from Mike Blue:
Hi Ron,
The blades all tested as hard. Between Rc 57 and 59. I marked them all. A couple have softer tangs and the rest are the same hardness all the way through. I don't have any explanation for that. But the tangs don't have to be hardened either.
One blade lost just a bit of the point. They are flat and I thought I'd see if I could test that steel to see if there was a differential. It's hard and the steel across the fracture is very fine grained stuff. A little work and you'll have a slightly rounded point. One other blade was tested in the same spot and did not fracture at Rc 58. So the blade hardness is the same pretty much throughout the blade.
You can see the Rockwell deformation dimples. Most of them except the above two blades are in front of the D up on the tang.
I'll put them in the mail on Monday.
Mike
