Escher ?
Just saw this on the bay and it doesn't look right to me. I may be wrong, but if it is an escher it is the only one with those specific dimensions I've ever seen. The scratches on the sides are also weird. Never saw one like that. Not to mention the thickness. The seller doesn't say what it is but it looks kinda skinny to me.

Thanked: 1936I have a feeling that stone is a Chinese stone, aka PHIG. Those saw marks are fresh, size is off, color/texture is off. I wouldn't give $1.00 for it, but that's just an opinion. I've been wondering in the back of my mind for a while when someone would start cutting down Chinese stones to the sizes of Eschers & try to pass them off.

I wouldn't say the saw marks looks fresh, looks sort of the same as on some old rocks i have here, just dried slurry making them white.

Thanked: 13245Well it could be one of the 15k+ Chinese hones which would make it better than an Escher
It really doesn't matter what it really is, without a genuine Escher label it is just a Stone, it will take an expert to decide if it is even a Thuringen...
(I will shut up now)

Thanked: 28I msg'd the seller asking him how he knew it was an escher branded stone and his reply was
do you know "Howard Schechter' from straightrazorplace.com forum... I have more then 5 stones so I sent him 1 and after he test it he told me it is Escher stone... I trust his knowledge."In the words of the ancients, one should make his decisions within the space of seven breaths." Yamamoto Tsunetomo

I don't know what he sent to Howard. I am 99% sure that the stone listed is not an escher. It is a size I've never seen an escher cut in. The factory cut stones in 3 or 4 sizes and those are the sizes we see year after year.
The saw cuts on the side are not at all typical of escher saw cuts.
