Thread: New toy

Just picked this up, been wanting one for awhile so when I seen the opportunity I pounced. she has a few dings but I think I can fix her up? what do ya'll thank?

LOL. Sure thing scienceguy ill send them right over. I Am just wondering how hard it will be to work on the silver scales and pop the dents out?

Just saw the dents. I think if you know what you're doing it shouldn't be too hard. Or if you know a jeweler it would probably be a snap. Beautiful scales.

I think that will be the best thing to do just take it to a jeweler? guess I will find out this weekend?

Dents and dings can be done. I have an F&B silver razor as well. It is amazing how hard that thin silver is. Most think it is solid, but is thin stamped sheets. Very light! Still very hard and some tapping and bending is usually needed. I have one which shall go to a jeweler, because of a crack!

Most jewelers wouldn't have a clue. You need a silversmith. A jeweler will just send it out and charge his cost and a big markup for himself.

You would be surprised the dents that can be removed with some bamboo chopsticks cut to shape on a thick pce of leather.

Any jeweler worth his name should be able to fix it but there is many botchers out there!

Maybe in your part of the world but here jewelers sell jewelry. They are supposed to have a knowledge of precious gems and jewelry metals but for the most part they can't fix squat unless they have training in gem setting or metal fabrication and work in the production end. Most jewelry stores don't even sell large silver pieces anymore. if you go into a typical store they are mostly large chain places and any repairs are sent out. If you are lucky to have a small mom and pop place you might have some work done on the premises.
