    Default Thoughts on this razor?

    Vintage Straight Razor w H Smith Nice 9 16" 3 Day Auction | eBay
I picked up this razor pretty cheap on ebay. Mainly I'm just looking for something to practice honing and maybe a bit of sanding/polishing on. Any thoughts on the quality of this?
    Thanks,
    Chris.

I can't give you any information on the maker but it looks a nice little razor.

Thanks for the input. I also ordered a norton 4000/8000, hopefully I can make it shave nicely.

Judging from the etching on the blade I would say it was a lot wider at one point. It looks like the bevel is already up to the stabilizer so you will have to remember that when you start to hone it. This could be a nice razor to learn with. Let us know how it's going.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

It's a fiteen dolla razor, whadaya want?

The wedgey profile should be good for honing practice. It'll work slow and you can get the hang of it.
One time, in band camp, I shaved with a Gold Dollar razor.

I like it! Sometimes these little guys can turn out to be great shaving razors. I recently got a little 9/16 W&B quarter hollow, with a nice smile to it, and I cant stop shaving with it. It shaves soooo nice. Hopefully this one can turn out to be as good for you. Good luck with it!

Thanks for the responses. After this and the stones arrive, hopefully I can put a decent edge on it.
