Default when an inch is 7/8...

I recently went over what i considered a reasonable amount to bid on ebay a got this:
Vintage Straight Razor Frederick Reynolds Sheffield Box 1 inch Blade | eBay
it is described as about 1 inch= 8/8 ( that is how i see it)
mail comes in today and to my surprise it is 7/8, but i want a 1" razor or close to it (15/16 or 24mm)
the question am i being unreasonable? i have a griffon razonr that was advertised as 7/8 but came at 24 mm so i am kind of spoiled. i don't know but the seller might have been a little misleading on the advertisement specially since he is two meassurements away from a whole inch. what do you guys think?

I think your complaint is fair given the 1/8" difference in size. Hopefully, the seller agrees with you.

Do you like the razor ? The seller offers a 14 day money back guarantee, excluding shipping. Says "about 1 inch", and on the next line, "I'm not an expert so ask questions." Looking at his other items it appears to me that this seller is into selling general antiques and probably doesn't realize the specificity that a sure enough straight razor shaver/collector prefers.

To him 7/8 is "about an inch." Probably hasn't a clue that people still shave with these when they can get Gillette cartridge razors in the five and dime. So for me it would depend on if I liked the razor.

(For younger folks, the five and dime ..... five and ten cents store ...... used to be a place where you went to buy things. Now they call them "dollar stores." Soon they'll call them 'ten dollar stores' to be more accurate. )

lol are you that old JimmyHad? i Have been living in the U.S. for about 18 years and i have never heard of a 5 and ten.
yes i do like the razor, but i had gone out of my razor budget because 8/8 razors or 24mm and larger usually are harder to get at the price. i will sleep on it as i really like the razor but i could and have found similar for a lower price. the only thing remarkable is that the scales only need a light polishing and that the blade has little to no pitting and could e an easy restore.

in spanish there is an expression that says "viejos los cerros y todavia reverdesen". something along the lines of that old are the hills, but they still turn green.

They turn green because people are buried there, people that were old!

On topic, is there even a standardized way to measure razors?

I always go from the top of the spine to the bottom of the cutting edge, and I'd guess that is the way most people would intuitively do it. Some razor companies, I think TI is one, go from the honing flat, beneath the top of the spine, to the bottom of the cutting edge. There are/were a few other companies that measured that way as well. Not all of them though.
