    Default Grey Rust?

I try to take as good of care of my razor as I can, but lately I've noticed a couple of grey spots on it, they dont rub off, nor do they look like rust, but I'm not sure what has happened to my razor or why, have any of you out there had a similar problem? Any advice?

Water spots? Try cleaning it up with some polish on news paper, I use Mothers mag & aluminum polish. Any of the favorite metal polishes will do some are better than others.

How have you been oiling the razor? I use silicone spray lubricant, i.e. cheap Tough Glide, just after honing and if water won't bead up on the clean razor.

I did the same to my Ralf Aust. I mixed some mineral oil and alcohol and about an hour later it looked like I had put it under a pepper shaker. Turns out I used 71% alcohol, which obviously has a good amount of water. I assume that was it.
It makes you feel amazingly inept when I can do that to a razor in a matter of months and I have razors that are decades old that someone obviously did a better job at taking care of! Haha.
I love living in the past...

My plan was to continue to use my nice 5/8 DOVO till I pasted 100 shaves, at about 50 now, before I tried my two new razors, TI 5/8 Eagle w/ snakewood scales or my TI 6/8 Spartacus w/ faux MOP scales to really understand one razor first. I just picked up three razors (another thread on the Razors thread) that I'm going to send off, my DOVO will be back soon.

Having said that, I'm even more leery to try anything new until I figure out how to prevent this. One thing I'm going to do is not soak the razor in my scuttle, and use tissue or toilet paper to wipe the soap off (my old barber did this) and gently clean the razor after wards.

I always meticulously dried the razor, oiled it, and still got these grey spots. My last shave, which was my best to date, I noticed afterwards that one or two little grey spots have turned into lakes and rivers, and nothing I did, even directly rubbing, would take them off.

Going to keep reading until I get to the bottom of this - Renaisance waxing the razor seems to be a big theme, and keeping it dry and not storing in humid area.
