Thanked: 13245The best Novice razor is one that you have complete confidence in that it is "Shave Ready" after that it is pretty much YMMV
There is some good criteria laid out in the Library of what makes a good starting point and why those ideas are presented but really the Shave Ready part is the most important..

Thanked: 8Thanks Guys for all the advice - I got a great deal of very useful info from the library ( thanks GSSixgun ).
I have also purchased a few cheap straight razors to learn honing and also a really nice Wade and Butcher which has been sent to Neil of this parish to work his magic ! This will give me a good idea of the standard to achieve !
The general consensus appears to say go with what you are comfortable with and start off as you intend to carry on with a properly honed razor.
