I find that if I peel the skin off my face, staple it to a board all tight and stretched, then I can get a super close shave all over. Haven't figured out how to re-attach the skin to my face though..I am set for Halloween.

I still have to master the center of the neck. But i am almost there. Chin is another story! 5/8 is something that may help. The wide blade of 6/8 is something which took time for me to get a grip on.

I may be the exception, but the wider blades are easier for me to manipulate in tough areas. Definitely round points are easier for me but I have had success with spikes.

The hair on my neck grows from my left ear sweeping down toward my right ear... So, I just do two passes XTG one from chin downward and the other from chest upward and have never worried about ATG. One thing I found works for the tougher spots like behind the jaw and under the ear is to reach across with the other hand and do a stroke working from the outside toward your chin. I start in a position as if I were going to pull my earlobe with the opposite hand (R hand to L ear/L hand to R ear) and then do a slow pull riding from my neck up over the protrusion of my jaw and then come down a little bit and do it again. The biggest challenge I've had with this is sometimes catching my ear where the earlobe attaches to my jawline... Never a big cut but that spot and the spot right at the top of my ear are the ones I most commonly catch nowadays.

Stretching by moving the trouble spot up to a more flat spot is something else I do but that has been covered above.

Take your time and have fun with it... If it is in an open area you could also just reverse the razor putting the spine against your skin and doing a practice stroke... This would have the added benefit of being able to quickly slap lather to it once you got the stroke right and go right back to it... But, beware that edge floating around! I've caught the corners of my eyes, my nose and ears a few times by focusing too much on one part of the blade and not the 'whole' blade.

I just posted this, http://straightrazorpalace.com/shavi...-get-grip.html . It may be of some help. Also, contribute any ideas if you have something that works well for you.

Yep... Going for those 'Lobster Hairs' that grow topmost of your cheek and around the corners of your eye... I was so focused on the 1/3rd of the toe side I was using to get those couple of hairs that when I saw them get cut I did an, "Aha! Gotcha!", kind of early celebration... Point took me out as I was doing my finishing move. Not a terrible pain, just that "hot", "burn" and "flush" you feel which is likely a combination of embarrassment and early healing process... I've come to think of that feeling as "Tuition" toward my SR Education now.

I've only lived in Yakima since '97 but have heard quite a few cool things... The guy from Dune/(some new women' show I've never watched; can't remember the title) is from here and supposedly Willie Nelson's Mom lives somewhere near... Pretty interesting! I'd never heard about Burt Ward though. Aside from the serious lack of available straight razor shaving gear in 'any' of the shops I've been to, and I've been to most, Yakima is not a half-bad town at all.

One thing that has worked ok for me is to "rotate" the razor. I think others have mentioned this motion too. For instance, say you're starting under your right sideburn with your right hand - then instead of shaving straight down, pivot the razor around where you're gripping it such that you end up 90 degrees from where you started, around your chin. Combine this with pulling your neck skin up to your cheek/jawline, and you can get quite a bit of your neck ATG if it grows east/west.
Now, transfer that motion on your neck area that you can't stretch to your cheek, but a much smaller rotation. Instead of going straight down in the hollows of your neck, take just the toe of the razor and do a slight rotation. It obviously takes longer but it's the only way I've gotten the hollows of my neck. Just my two cents...
