Good question.......I can't figure out why anyone would want just 2 razors either.

Many of us are enthralled with the art and of the many many options available. I like many others think of them like naked women, once you have one you want to try them all. The more realistic answer is to have a back up is why you would have at least two. I didn't stop there and if I had greater resources I may have a museum.

Strictly to keep you shaving in the event one is damaged or absent.
Keep your concentration high and your angles low!

Despite the high cost of living, it's still very popular.

If one is good, two is better and 20 is not plenty but 39 is close to divine.

When first starting out, it can also be helpful to keep an extra razor that is shave ready as an indicator of when your regular razor needs a touch up or honing.

    All those reasons.

    1. Personally, I wanted to know what shaving with a properly honed open razor felt like; one was enough.
    2. After I stropped and shaved with one for a couple of weeks it occurred to me that having another professionally honed razor for comparison seemed sensible; two was enough.
    3. I was glad I had razor #2 after razor #1 was misdirected into the faucet. So I was back to one for a while.
    4. There appeared an affordable Dubl Duck. Two OK razors and a Dubl Duck was reasonable.
    5. Curiousity about a wedge popped up for some reason. Three hollows and a wedge - nice even number.
    6. But what's the point in having full hollows and a wedge if you never shaved with a half-hollow ground blade? (rolls eyes)
    7. And then a couple of junkers for honing practice.

One is enough. More than one is pathological. If it craps out you can grow a beard or go back to the Bic for a while. I mean, I couldn't but somebody could. If you add up my totals on girlfriends, wives, kids, live-in hard cases, cars, cigars, pipes, motorcycles... I am a terrible person to answer "Why two?" of anything.
