Thanked: 1Once a Rolling X, always a Rolling X?
Good Morning,
Once you use a Rolling X stroke to sharpen a given razor, do you need to use the same stroke when you strop (balsa, leather, linen)?
My thinking is yes because if you need that stroke to hit the entire edge during honing, wouldn't you need it for all other operations?
Thanks,
EricSlowly but surely I'm figuring this out.

Thanked: 13247The edge of the razor needs to evenly and equally move across all those surfaces.. Period
The way you have to manipulate the razor to achieve that is a skill that you have to develop over time, the better you develop that skill the better your shaves will get
Everything we do in this sport comes down to how well you control the edge of the razor, from honing to stropping to shaving

Thanked: 4828I'm not sure if I am following the question, but here is the answer to what I think you are saying. The rolling X is used for hard surfaces like hones and balsa strops. There is no need for a rolling x on a hanging strop. A hanging strop will conform slightly to adjust for the smile or up honed toe. You will need only the regular x on your strop unless it is a hard surface strop.
