I just want to see those hips going. I use very little hip when I strop and I am always on the lookout for improvements to my technique...

On the pressure thing, it might help to think of how thin the edge is: I am not sure of the exact figures, but on a well-honed full hollow that edge must be somewhere in the order of maybe a fraction of a micron or thereabouts. Too much pressure on the edge will potentially bend and weaken that edge, particularly if you lift the spine.

In addition, if you think about the fibres of the leather brushing the striations of the metal, rather like a shaving brush stroking whiskers on your face, there's little to be gained by adding more pressure. You just need enough pressure for the contact to be consistent. Any more is wasted effort for little extra effect, and too much is potentially damaging and counterproductive.

I think I'm creating confusion. There's little hip movement when I strop also.

My strop is mounted low so I have to bend ze knees & lock my abdomen because I anchor my left hand to left hip. In a roundabout way the hips are involved.

Hey OP ..... you getting all this? Let's recap shall we:

    - stropping is a "feelings" thing that is very fragile
    - don't ever let a bodybuilder strop your razor
    - regardless of instructions always leave door handles in place
    - Aussies speak a very strange language (sounds like English but isn't)
    - drowning your enemies may help but then you have to start feeding a dog
    - forehead oil is the best strop conditioner available
    - you will need a GPS to check your latitude
    - martial arts training is a mandatory prerequisite
    - golfing hockey players may make the best stroppers
    - loose hips ...... ah ..... I don't have anything
    - your marital status may be in jeopardy

There's a lot of good information here.

Keep your concentration high and your angles low!

Despite the high cost of living, it's still very popular.

Perhaps the point of derailment should be considered the end of the thread and the start of the breeze shooting. Though this is coming from an epic inadvertent (usually) derailler.
