Default To hone or not to hone

My razor was allegedly shave ready when I first got it. As mentioned in my introduction, my circumstances changed and it ended up being left in the bathroom cabinet for two years where, in its box, it developed a few rust spots and some patina. As I await the arrival of my strop I'm wondering if the two years of neglect mean the razor should be honed? Or will it be enough to subject the blade to my novice stropping technique?

The edge of your razor very likely is oxidized, and improper stropping will not bring it back. Even very good stropping technique might not get you very far. I'd get it honed and keep it out of the bathroom.

In that case, the next thing I need to ask is does anyone have recommendations for a UK based person I can send it to?

Definitely have it honed. If you can't keep it out of the bathroom then oil it after drying and it should be ok.
Keep your concentration high and your angles low!

Despite the high cost of living, it's still very popular.

Clean it up and send it for honing. If its got rust the chances of the edge being bad are pretty good. Start out fresh and you'll have a benchmark to continue with. Good luck

Thanks. I already ordered a strop from him so I'll send the razor off once I have some spare cash again.

This brings to mind a movie where someonene was making a Volvo ad, the slogan they came up with was something like - volvos, they are boxy.
But a nice offer. Its good that people want to help people.
