Tell me about your Dovo BQ's
Mine's in the mail right now and from what I've read, it's a pretty good first straight razor. For anyone who's got one let me know what your impressions have been of it. For the old timers who've moved on to other razors; how does it stack up now that you've used other more expensive straights? I've also read mixed feelings on whether to strop it before shaving with it out the box. I didn't buy a strop yet but I plan on picking one up from SRD soon. Thanks guys
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

Good question. Waiting on responses. I just recently received my 1st razor. I got a gently used International Greyhound 6/8 of off SRP classifieds for a great deal(imho). How much did you pay for the Dovo, if I may ask?

I picked mine up for $80 or so. Give or take 5 bucks since I'm not 100% on that but I could barely find anyone who had them in stock so when I found one I grabbed it up quick. If all goes well I'm going to splurge and get a Bergischer Lowe sometime next year. Even if I dont use it often; it looks like a piece of art IMO.

Thanked: 636I have a Dovo and love it. I did strop it when I got it. I strop after each use to make sure it is dry and ready it for next time. I have vintage razors that shave just as well and other new razors that are as good or a little better. Good luck.

I have a Dovo BQ and love it. It was my first and I use it almost every shave. Just needs a good stropping before each shave, I use .5 CROX followed by leather. Definatley happy this one.

most of the time when someone ships out a shave ready razor, you do not need to strop it before first use. Crox, or chromium oxide, is a paste that's .5 micron and is used for touch ups and smoothing out harsh edges.
I also have a Dovo BQ 6/8 and like it.

Thanked: 1195The Dovo BQ is a solid no-frills razor that will give a lifetime of good shaves if treated right - just like any other reputable razor. If it was prehoned and you have little-to-none experience with stropping we do recommend that you don't strop prior to the first shave.
As for chromium oxide, it is indeed a strop paste that has some cutting power. It's mainly used to touch up a dulling edge or to smooth out an edge right after honing on stones. It should be used sparingly and not before/after every shave.
