I have NEVER been able to do the spine flip, in honing or stropping. I am slower, but sure in picking up edge first and setting down spine first. Hell, I cannot shave with my left hand either! I watch guys strop in a frenzy and am much impressed.

I rest my case.

I am guessing it is not only the RHS, but also the handle end, it is common to nick strops on the dominant side, handle end. There are even a few threads about it, I might even have some.photos in one.

I haven't given my razor a stropping yet since I just got it but I dread the idea of nicking it up when the times comes. I guess this is all part of that learning curve. Which reminds me I need to order a strop from SRD still.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

I never said anything - thought it went without saying. So, for the tiny ones I cut into the edges I had good results buffing them out (or down) with a fingernail file. I hear sandpaper works; or glue, depending.
Two months later I'm flip-flopping a couple of strokes/second and haven't seen a nick in a while. Oh well - day's not over.Last edited by MisterMoo; 09-12-2013 at 03:17 PM.

I used cement. Just pulled off the shiny top layer, whatever that's called.

Try reversing the stropping motion during the flip, so that the razor is already moving before the edge touches the strop. That should prevent the nicks you describe.
