I used cement. Just pulled off the shiny top layer, whatever that's called.

Try reversing the stropping motion during the flip, so that the razor is already moving before the edge touches the strop. That should prevent the nicks you describe.

Much rugged good sense in that suggestion. Now if only my muscles will coöperate.
