Thanked: 4one straight razor ??
I own 1 straight razor (vintage),
1 razor hone (vintage),
and a few homemade strops.
I collect things - so I understand collecting a stack of razors, hones, etc.
Can I tell Mrs. Jody without (without fibbing) that I need a few bucks for another inexpensive vintage razor to make straight shaving work better?
//A little background: I bought the razor & hone some years back, and failed at that time to make it work. I just recently gave it another go, and it is working out much better this time. I started on Saturday, and the 4th shave (today) was the best one of the set so far.
While we are at it, do shaves get better for a while after a few shaves (more stropping)?
I suspect my technique is improving more than the edge is improving.
Thanks,
Jody

I noticed a difference in shave quality the more I practices and improved my technique. It's a bit of the edge is improving because your technique is improving.
And as for the getting another straight, having a second straight razor allows you to always have one shave ready. So when one needs a touch up or to be sent out to get honed you have your other razor ready. A lot of guys work in rotations, so they have a razor for different days.
It's all up to you.

Thanked: 1936We typically recommend a minimum of two or three razors. This way you can send one out to be re-honed and you can still be shaving as the turn around can be 2-3 weeks. I always travel with two razors. Pick up a shave ready razor from the classified's or from one of our outstanding vendors.

vintage razors often come with heels, antique table and chairs, jewelry, front bumpers for the wife's car, gallons of paint to repaint the dining room( for the 3rd time this year, because "that just is not the right shade of paint for this season")
you just have to know how to bundle your purchaces
