Thanked: 16Shave no. 2 in the books
Hey all,
So tonight I went forward with only my second SR shave and I must say it was quite an improvement over the first! Far from perfect (or even good I'd say), but still, a whole lot better than the my first attempt on Sunday...
This time I definitely did a lot better sideburn down to the bottom of my neck, and I was even able to get my top lip pretty good. I did get a tiny knick just under my nose but I didn't even feel it even though I knew it the second I made my stroke. Weird how that works hey? lol!
I still had to give up on my chin but I did get a couple small areas there sorted. Overall it wasn't as clean a shave as I will expect later, but for my second attempt I am very pleased!
A couple things I remarked on... I think I will only lather where I am shaving first as I was going slow and found that the soap was totally dried out on the right side before I was done the left side. I was also still having a bit of grief with a comfortable position while being able to see in the mirror because of my blind eye and line of sight, and I thought of something a fellow said in my first shave thread where in the old days, some parents would teach their kids to shave blind without a mirror, so I gave it a bit of a go in that I just used the mirror to mark a spot, and then I just stopped trying to force a look and simply shaved by feel. Surprisingly it actually worked okay! Not sure if that is proper, but it may be how I have to proceed with a few areas...
Anyways, overall impression is one of improvement which is awesome! I can't wait for shave number 3 now!

Hang in there, it gets better and better with time. You mentioned having trouble with the chin, and it is a common trouble spot when in the learning curve. Drying lather is also experienced by most newbs so don't feel like you're alone. I used to put a few drops of glycerin in my lather, which helped keep it moist longer. You mentioned your vision...I wear trifocals but I take them off when I shave and use my sense of touch for the fine tuning of the shave. Enjoy the ride.

I hope by now you've had # 3, and it is still getting better. It takes many of us many months to get "happy" with the results of our SR shaves.

Thanked: 16I have and have posted about it. I tend to shave every 3/4 days. I have a pretty thick, heavy beard and even though I should shave every day, I find my skin does a whole lot better shaving every 3 days. Besides, my wife doesn't mind a bit of scruff for a couple days... lol
