Thanked: 16One week and 3rd shave = Success!!!
Hey all!
I am proud to say that today I completed my first SR shave in its entirety!!!
I decided that I was going to commit to not using my fusion for touch ups and that I have to just put on my big boy pants and attack those areas that have been giving me fits (chin, under nose, corners of mouth and chin line), knicks be damned... Took me a little bit of time and effort but I am super pleased to say I made it through with only one tiny knick (oddly enough on my neck) and a decently smooth shave! Could it be better? Sure... Could it be worse? Oh hell yeah it could! I must say I am quite stoked about it.. I came out of the bathroom pounding my chest hollering "I am a man now!!!". My wife and kids rolled their eyes of course but that doesn't matter right now. I feel great!
Anyways, Have a great day all... I am now going to see how many people I can get to touch my face!

I'm not volunteering to touch your face (or anything else), but way to go to hang in there. Be cautioned, however, that just when you think you have perfected your shaving, something can go wrong.....so stay humble

Thanked: 16One thing I will note is that I bought a 13k Sigma Power Select II Japanese water stone yesterday and after honing my SR up to that level (before my finest stone was an 4k/8k Norton combination) and finishing on bare leather, I definitely noticed an improvement in the sharpness...

I know what you mean. Did my third straight shave this morning as well. Also decided to avoid picking up my old razor (a DE in my case) to do touch ups and instead work on doing a light second pass with the straight. Pretty much same results. A pretty good shave, maybe not the best but definitely good enough to mass muster. Keep shaving my friend!
You know as much as people talk about getting smooth when stroking their face against the grain, I've only been able to do it a few times with a DE, never with a cartridge razor, and definitely not with a straight yet. And even when I was able to accomplish the feat, shaving for the next several days was uncomfortable and I was better off letting my skin rest a day or two. I've pretty much decided that I don't really care about getting that close of a shave anymore.
