Thanked: 13245There is only one test, everything else is for those honing the razor, yes that really is the truth...
Here is a Vid I did awhile back, it eliminates MOST of the variables, if you and your razor can't pass this test, then most likely the razor is not shave ready IF you did your part diligently... (note that big if)

Shave Ready?
Hey guys, new to the site and loving it. Posted a thread in beginners and progressed to posting a pic which I was told I should post here for review. Not sure if you can tell much from it or not but this razor was supposed to be honed and stropped ready to shave. I had a very unpleasant attempt at shaving with it and it failed almost every other test I tried but I'm new and it was my first shave so I'm not sure if its the razor or the operator..

The only test that matters is the "shave test." If it isn't shaving... you aren't going to use it - simple lol.
Great photo and maybe some others can comment - It looks great to me but I really haven't a clue lol.
When you say it could be "user error" - how long have you been shaving with a straight? Welcome to SRP!!David

That edge definitely looks quite rough to me. By no means am I an expert but I would say it needs a honing. I would send it to one of the experts here on srp. Lynn or gssixguns are both excellent choices, I've had a razor honed by both.
