Thanked: 0replacing blades?
I am new to the straight razor world and as I'm looking around and getting ideas in what to get I had a couple questions. I've noticed people saying kriegar blades (a friend got me one as a gift) are terrible so I was looking for a way to replace the blade. And also where to get said replacement blade.

Thanked: 3226If you are talking about these razors Kriegar Razor | eBay , I think the best bet and most economical approach would be to just buy a proper "shave ready" straight razor of reputable make either new or used from the classifieds here. There is a list of razors to avoid Brands of Straight Razors to avoid - Straight Razor Place Wiki and unfortunately yours is on it. A lot of times people are recommended to keep the razors on the avoid list as letter openers.

Ditto what BobH and shooter74743 said.
I would add, do a generous amount of reading and research on this forum. Also, as I've learned(I'm really new to SR shaving as well), don't hesitate to ask. We don't know what we don't know, so ask
There are tons of helpful, encouraging people here.

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 485Did you read this bit? Says it all really.
[QUOTE] (Please Note: This is a collector piece, and not really made for shaving)
One doesn't really replace a 'blade', as the razor IS the blade. One may replace the scales (handles) but it's all in the blade. I have a Bengall that has broken scales, but I don't care, really, as the blade is what I care about.
Do yourself a favour and check out the classifieds here, you'll get a nice shave ready razor sold by someone who knows about straight razor shaving and who doesn't refer to a straight razor as 'a barber's knife'.
CarlStranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Thanked: 10Replace the blade. Check. Well, you also need to replace the scales. That's the handle looking part. It's not a handle, actually, because you don't hold the razor by the scales at all. The scales are just there to protect the edge when you are not shaving with it. Those scales are waaaaaay too heavy! I know a guy who is a serious straight razor geek and as an experiment he is totally regrinding one of those razors. One thing I noticed is the first thing he did after letting me examine the razor, was pop off the scales and toss them in the trash. So once again, yeah, replace the blade, which like Carl says, IS the razor. Then replace the scales. No, you can't re-use the pins, either. Maybe you can salvage the washers. There. You done it. You replaced the entire razor except for a couple of tiny washers. The easy way is to not even bother, toss the whole thing, and get a real one meant for shaving, made by shavers. And save yourself the trouble of sending your new razor out for honing by only buying a shave-ready razor. DO NOT trust an ebay seller who says his razors are shave-ready! They are just filling the page with pretty words to get you to buy their stuff. Most of those guys don't even shave with a straight razor and wouldn't know a shave ready straight razor if it was going ATG on their backside. On this furum or on the other popular one (I don't know if it is okay to mention it by name) guys who sell shave ready razors want to protect their reputations so it is a pretty safe bet that if a guy here says its shave-ready, it is shave-ready and you just have to do your part to make it work. Shaving with a Kreigar? Even shave with Kreigar scales on a different razor? Those scales weigh nearly a pound LOL! They will totally ruin the balance of a razor. You got enough to worry about, with an insanely sharp blade at your neck, trying to slice whisker hairs without slicing any skin or veins, without juggling a razor that won't stay juggled!
