Thanked: 983I'm thinking bad steel is just bad steel. I don't know anything about Krieger razors though.

Thanked: 13234They are what we call RSO "Razor Shaped Objects..
To answer all your questions in all your threads
No...
They will never hold a real edge
They are made as knives so the Geometry is also off
The steel is just not there
The Handle is made as a knife handle and is useless as a razor handle (scales) even if you could change the blade they would never work right..
Use it as a display, put it up in a box on the wall and get a Real Straight Razor if you want to shave with one...
ps: Do NOT be afraid to ask and to link a razor here on SRP BEFORE you buy one, there are many shall we say less then "Honest" sellers out there taking advantage of newbs with words like "Shave Ready"...Last edited by gssixgun; 09-26-2013 at 10:24 PM.

Oh don't believe them.
There is a guaranteed way to treat them. Just put it in a vice and give it one good whack with a five pound sledge. That's just what it needs. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 983Well it looks like your friend got gyped in this kind hearted gift to you. Learn from it both of you, and move on. Take the advice given, and research before your next purchase. Run it by the blokes here first, before you spend, and they will guide you in the right direction. You'll know when you've hit on something good, because they stop being smart alec's and start praising you by offering to take care of the razor for you for as long as possible, or telling you it's not worthy of you and that they will take it off your hands for you etc.
Take heart and don't give up.

Thanked: 1184We need a warning that comes up on Google as a first line when you type in anything that has to do with straight razors. A link right to the list of razors to avoid. hmmmmm how can we hack that into Goggles servers ? It's just a matter of hits :<0)
Sorry about the Krieger bud. I was just given 1 from a friend. I told him I would put it in my collection :<0)
It has a nice spot right next to my other letter openers and box knives.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
