If it makes a lather for you it is good to go.
Some folk take their brush in the shower and
lather a bit of shampoo and conditioner to
clean soap buildup.
If in doubt invest $15 in a new
Omega 10098 Professional Boar shaving
brush and compare.
This Omega is highest on my list of inexpensive brushes.
It and Cella makes a stellar shave lather. Yes other famous
soaps and creams too.
Not as easy to use as a badger brush costing 10x but
a worthy brush. Hint invest $3 in a plastic salsa bowl
to use as a lathering bowl. Yes it costs more than the
Van Der Hagen Premium Shave Set (Soap, Bowl, Brush)
kit that we all should have started with but hey at $15
it is a true bargain.

Still pretty new to wet shaving myself, but I would say it would be time to get a new brush when the old one doesn't work as well any more.

Thanked: 1184If you are shaking the water out of it and the knot flies out and hits you in the forhead it's time for a new brush.
If after the first pass you look down in the sink and there is more hair than water, You need a new brush.
If you have to use a cloths pin on your nose to lather up because the brush smells so bad, It's time for a new 1.
If you see your wife using it to clean the edge of the toilet seat, definitely don't use it anymore. And get a new one.
If you happen to be looking around and see something you might like to try. GET IT. At least that's what your brain will tell you and you always listen because your so smart.
It is almost a requirement to own 1 of each type of knot. Boar in each band, badger in each grade. So don't even wonder about when you need a new brush. By the time you do you will have some back ups I bet . :<0)Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

You don't need an excuse to get a new shave brush, just like the next straight razor or shaving soap
A man should only look in the mirror when he shaves.
