Latherin.... it is a good thing.
I have the opinion that "Latherin" is central to a good shave.
This is what I am "Lathering" with this week. It happens to
be an inexpensive kit as well.
- The Brush is inexpensive: Omega 1098 Professional Boar shaving brush.
- The bowl was a couple bucks -- it is a plastic salsa bowl from the local market.
- The soap is Cella save soap.
No mater what kit you have, practice, experiment. It took a while before I learned
to pick up "a lot" of Cella soap then in the bowl build the lather adding warm water
dribble by dribble.
As the weather shifts I expect to switch to a cream in a green tube
simply because I have it.
The bigger the brush the bigger the bowl you will want to lather in.
This salsa bowl was a find. Inexpensive, large enough for all my
brushes, smooth with slight dimpling inside and out and easy to
hold onto with wet hands. Plastic... it will not break easy.
Latherin.... it is a good thing and need not break the bank.

Recently picked up some Cella myself. Took a bit to figure out the incremental addition of water was the key to a good lather. BTW, the almond scent is great!
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Lathering is definitely one the best parts about shaving. I need to try Cella.... along with about 50 other kinds of shave soap/cream...

You aren't wrong, last night I made a new lathering breakthrough and am very happy. I have also relaxed in trying to get a really smooth multipass shave and instead going for an acceptably smooth comfortable shave.

Lither, lather,
Dither, dather,
Gotta lather
All the live long day and night.
I speak to truth, I am an addict - for soaps and creams. At the moment only a measly 12 different ones. With two more coming in the next few days. I'll try them straight and then start combining them with each other to see what I get. Couple that with the need to have a variety of cups, mugs, bowls scuttles and anything else I think you could build a good lather in including face lathering. Lots of so so results and an occasional spectacular foaming that might take over the bathroom. On the long view, where else can you have such fun at a relatively low cost. Lather away."The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."

Same here Razorfeld; I have to admit that I'm a bit of a soap slut too. I have my "regular" eight soaps that I rotate but there are twice that many more that I use when the spirit moves and a dozen more in the drawer that I haven't tried yet. Then there's the bag of soaps that I tried but didn't like for one reason or another but I might try again "someday". Heh, I can't seem to throw anything away.
rs,
Tack
Edit: I take it back - I DID throw out a puck of Lightfoot pine soap a some years ago. That stuff is just awful - hard as a rock, very little scent, terrible lather. I swear, bacon makes better lather.
Crap, now I have to search the web for bacon scented soap!Last edited by Tack; 10-03-2013 at 04:17 AM.

The ones you might try again one day, probably won't get tried again one day. Just use them for hand washing. I recently dumped a tube of cream into my shower gel as I know I won't use it for shaving again, though as it didnt smell that great my shower gel doesn't smell great either, though it lathers better. I am developing a taste for shaving cream gathering, though only until I find the one or two I really like.
