Hi Bill,
There are a lot of stones you can use, but the grit of the stone determines where it will fit into your honing. With synthetics it takes a number of stones, coarse to fine, to hone a razor from bevel set to finish.
With naturals, i.e. Jnats you may be able to use the same base stone all the way through, but have to use several Naguras of differing grits to produce a slurry to work through the progression.
The coarseness of your stone will determine where it may fit in the progression, but being for knives it won't be the only hone you'll need.
Here's a link that should help.

Bill, it sounds like you're curious & looking into str8 shaving - perhaps coming from a curiosity about knives, edged tools. A razor is a pretty different animal, requiring more than a casual inquiry.
Do you have a razor? Strop? Brush? Soap/cream? 'Read any of the intro threads?
You'll find alot of help here - but there's some learning to do. You'll find most of the experienced guys recommend learning the shave first - usually months before attempting to hone. The work it takes to learn is rewarded by a fine pleasure you get to repeat *every* day.
'Hope to hear more from you.
