So I'm going to hone the blade as it seems to be a bit (and just a bit) off from super sharp. I've got Naniwa water stones 1K, 5K, 8K, 12K. Less is more, presumably. Would you just use 12K or do a pyramid from 8K or 5K or ...?

Just the 12k and a good bit of stropping on linen and leather should see it back on par.

I'm jealous that's are great set of sharpening stones ya got there. I went back to diamond spray on felt the stripped with roughy leather finishing on English leather and the blade can alive again. I bet that 12K is awesome.

Have you tried some extra long stropping sessions ? If you go to the stones start at 12 and go very light. That 12 works fast so be deliberate with your laps and it shouldn't take too many. :<0)

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

60 strops is what I've been doing routinely. Not extra long, I suspect.

Lynn does a video on just this subject. It is titled Honing-Refreshing razors. Helped me out a lot!

Thanks! I figured he might have but a perusal of the library didn't bring it up for me.

I had the same problem too! I went to YouTube and tracked it down.

I'll do the CrOx first, when that doesn't do the job I use the coticule I have.

For a good refresh for me, coticule, then CrOx, then the white / grey pasted linen strop (you can use this everyday), then normal stropping, works great!!
