Default A Bit of a Revelation

    Hello all,
I had my shave this evening, because it was a great way to cap off a weekend. Also, I didn't want to wait until tomorrow morning. And it was remarkable.

    Setup:
    Escali badger brush
    TOBS Sandalwood cream
    Washington 5/8 razor
    Old Spice aftershave

I remembered reading in TaipeiJake's wonderful "shave diary" that he thought of shaving as just wiping the lather off with the blade. And so I relaxed, and began my shave with that in mind. No pressure, nice shallow angle. Just wiping off the lather. I finished my WTG pass off, and it was amazing. Very comfortable, and much closer than my normal WTG pass. So I lathered up again for an XTG pass. It also went smoothly, and I was feeling fantastic! My skin wasn't annoyed by the presence of the razor, and my whiskers were just falling away from the skin. And so I lathered up again to try an ATG pass. I'm not very good with ATG yet, but I was doing well so far, so why not? I managed my cheeks alright, but I really wasn't feeling it on my neck. So I backed off, and finished my neck XTG. I figure ATG will come with time and practice, and I'm not in a rush.
End result was BBS cheeks, and probably DFS everywhere else. Not bad, I'd say. And my skin feels wonderful. Definitely a good way to conclude a weekend.

An interesting side note: I shave WTG and XTG with my right hand on my right side and left hand on my left side. When I'm doing ATG (or trying to), I find it much easier to flip and shave my left side with my right hand, and vice-versa.

Anyhow, I'm excited and wanted to share.
    Good night!

I refer to the ATG pass as the "money pass", but it took me some months to get really good with it. Be patient and give yourself time. It'll come when you're ready for it.

Yes - that's the way I've seen most do the ATG, I do, opposite hands for the ATG pass....then there's the advanced scything pass, which I've tried a few times...

    + 1 for judgement.
Sometimes you just shouldn't force it....

As they say Rome wasn't built in a day. You have your foundation now just build on it. Its always better to back off(although I just cant seem to take that advice and always have spots of irritation for it in the spots I know I should leave)
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed
