Thanked: 10I strongly suggests that you call Straight Razors Design and speak to one of the people there. I bought my first "kit" from them and have bought several razors from them since. They are very helpful and you will be guaranteed that your straight will be shave ready (I understand that most Dovo's are not shave ready "out of the box" and most be honed first).

I don't think it is a "push" for other sites. sometimes SRD is out of stock and many other vendors, who are just as reputable, are not. that being said I have always been very satisfied with my purchases from SRD and vintagebladesllc and those are my favorite sources for brand new razors. when I want a used of vintage blade the classifieds here and our other vendors often work quite well.
but I live in the US in other areas of the world there are different choices that seem to work better, mainly because of shipping and customs fees.
enjoy,

Agreed. Not a push but if you went to walmart and they said they didn't have what you wanted but they had something more expensive and not necessarily what you need would you buy it. Some would. Others would go to another store and find what they were looking for. Same thing on the internet except you don't have to spend gas money. I personally find royalshave.com and classic edge.ca to be the sites that usually have stock the most often so I shop there. When I first started I tried SRD but as the OP stated out of stock. I waited three months as they were the cheaper site of the ones I was looking at, yet to no avail. So I ended up taking my business else where. I am not bitter about the experience and of course would rather do my shopping from SRD as they typically are cheaper and the shipping would be less for me as long as they are in stock.

I'd say no harm in helping someone find something in other places. I've had somewhat of a tough time finding information and websites to buy SR gear until I found this place!

Thanked: 1936Who might I ask started "Straight Razor Place"? Many who walk these internet halls may not even care. I personally feel that if I am a "user" of someone's website so full of wonderful information at no cost, then I just might be a bit loyal to that person if they have a store that is dedicated to our sport...especially if they are nothing but top notch in ALL aspects from products to customer service...much less if they are competitive on pricing. I agree that there is no harm looking around, I do too. I'm not talking about dictatorship by any means & I hope you understand that, I'm talking about loyalty.

I agree completely. The first place I've been going (and usually last) to get info and/or products is SRD.

Thanked: 0As an absolute newbie to this who is also looking at a starter kit, I can understand the OP's confusion. Straight razor designs certainly looks to be the place to go. It's not easy getting your feet wet in this realm.

Thanked: 40Straight Razor Designs is my go to place for supplies. Another plus is if you buy a razor from them it not only comes shave ready but with a second honing free. If you like shaving with a straight razor your first razor will not be the only one in your collection. This is both a warning and a fact of life.
