Thanked: 1Hey Matt...if it makes you feel any better when I started shaving with a straight my face looked a lot like yours. Well not the nicks and cuts (I dunno how sometimes considering the ghetto gear I was stuck with) but the acne. I have fought acne since I was about 14 and was having some exceptional breakouts and problems right before I started using a straight.
That's not the good part, the GOOD news is that since I've been straight shaving I've had fewer breakouts and the few I've had (stress induced I assume) have been minor. I think the exfoliation involved in dragging a sharp piece of steel across your face (I know that sounds scary) makes a HUGE difference. I mean think about it...next time you go to wipe your blade look at it first...all that other crap that's not whisker is dead skin that would otherwise remain there clogging pores and helping to ruin your complexion.
Keep at it, I'd wager you see results shortly, and BTW have you tried the clearasil in the shiny new tube that says results in 3 days? Man that stuff is AWESOME!!!
Sorry for the technically OT but hey we're a familial type community so I offer advice where I can

I have not tried the new clearasil, but their older stuff used to dry my face out so bad that it would start pealing. For the most part, I don't get that bad of breakouts, usually just on my chin and only 2-3 at a time. Obviously noticeable, but not overwhelming.
I was wondering how straight shaving would affect this. As you mentioned, the exfoliation has to be good, not to mention the soaps would help as well I am guessing. I have noticed a change in just the last couple of weeks. The ones I already had went away pretty quickly, but there are definitely less new ones popping up. I definitely attribute this to the shaving. I may pick up some of that new clearasil as well just to see if it drys out my face. My skin is pretty sensitive to most products, so I have to be careful with anything that I am actually rubbing in and leaving on. Thanks for the tip.

Thanked: 1I use the wash, so you rub it in in the shower and rinse it off real well. I can't help with the drying issue as I have oily enough skin you could fry an egg on my forehead if it got hot enough without it sticking to ANYTHING EVER AGAIN! Hell it'd prolly pass through your system undigested cause the acids just beaded up and rolled off

Man, I'm glad I didn't post any pics of my first shave... In all honesty, I wasn't very far off from those pics, though. Fortunately bleeding tends to jog the short term memory into action, especially when accompanied by styptic. I don't have any cool scars like that to show off though. Damn you round point!

Haha, those were done with a round point. The round point works very well as a shovel to gouge out the skin . Got to love that mental imagery huh! And yes, bleeding does jog the memory. I learned very quickly how to not only avoid causing wounds, but how to get around current wounds, as I continued to shave despite the cuts and nicks. Some may say that I am a sucker for punishment. They are probably right.

Same here, but for me it's my temples. Anything containing salycilic acid usually causes more breakouts than I had before, and heavy peroxide products cause extreme dryness.
I really reccomend this stuff: http://www.thebodyshopinternational..../Tea+Tree+Oil/
I've been using the foaming face wash and the bar of soap for about a year now with good result.
