Thanked: 0Facial scar issues.
So I have a large facial scar on my jaw line. (imagine the joker from batman, only upside down) I am wanting to get into the world of straight razor shaving but im not sure if this would be in any way intelligent of me. My current razor has never cut me but honestly I am terrified of ripping this bad boy back open. scar runs from corner of my mouth to the side of my adam's apple. Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated! thank you all in advance.

Thanked: 1184I do not have any scars to speak of but I would say this is something you could work around. Now, someone with the same condition will come along and give you some advice I am sure. I think you would have to pay attention to the blades direction of travel if the scar is uneven. You may get more questions like, how old is your scar, does it have raised skin or a depression. You may also be advised to try a double edge first. If it were me I might look up a barber (like The Art of Shaving) that uses a shavette and try it out first. See what they say. A straight is not as scary as it looks once you learn how to use it.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 1263One of the key points in using a straight is to use little or no pressure and just guide the razor over the skin. This is especially helpful in dealing with scars or other skin blemishes. So your fears of using a straight could go out the window If your current razor doesn't cut you then a straight won't cut you with a little bit of focus and practice. Avoid the area until you are comfortable..there's nothing wrong with using another razor to shave those areas until you are comfortable. I have a few scars on my face and I shave over them with ease using a straight

Thanked: 0Well i reckon I will go ahead and answer said questions; Scar is 6 years old, extremely smooth and soft, 0.5cm wide, makes a question mark shape from the corner of the mouth to Adams apple " ? " It is depressed into the skin but very little. I have never caught it with a disposable but hair grows very thin on the scar line itself. Ive used the safety razor(hope I have my correct term here...) before and had no issues out of it. I think if nothing else the taking better care of my face through the world of shaving is going to keep this scar as minimal as possible. Thank you 10Pups I appreciate the advice and will look into that for sure!

I have some facial scarring, and it is the one place I've never cut myself. Guess my level of awareness goes up when I'm shaving that area.

I have a 1.5" scar right behind my jawbone, and.directly under my chin:
I got it by cycling into the back of a hatchback car on my racing bike, looks up and there was a parked car right in front of me, I smashed the back window with my chin, and my bike was wrecked.
It was funny going to the police station to make a statement the next day. But that's another story.
The scar causes me no real issues, I occasionally nick it, but I used to do that with my cartridge razor too.
Don't let your scar put you off, you will just have to take your time and figure out the best way to tackle it as you go.
Best regards
