    Default Shaving the Neck

I can get my face baby smooth but my whiskers grow from the left to the right across my neck. It grows straight across not on any diagonal and for the life of me I can't get a smooth shave on my neck. Any ideas?

I have this problem, too. Trying to get BBS there just leads to irritation and bumps.

That was a difficult area for me as well...just takes time, angle in this area is important.

I do ATG on this area, and after the normal passes/shave, I found that doing just a cold water/water only pass in this area helps. One, it's another pass, and two, with just the water, you can see the area a bit better, and don't hesitate to rub the area with your hand. For me, this was strictly a technique issue....YMMV.

I am similarly afflicted. On my second pass, I start South headed North but then work the razor as much into an Easterly heading as possible on the stroke. Making a bit of a curve. With a leaned and turned head with appropriate stretching I can do very well there with the edge pivoting around to come almost parallel to my jaw line. Too many passes = burn so I limit the number of mulligans. Some days I do better than others...I have found that razor selection seems to be a factor. Some do better than others, not sure why. Kinda like Golf!

I can never seem to accurately gauge how well I have done until after the shave is over and everything put away. Sometimes I swear I got it nailed and only later feel the roughness.

I would agree the neck can be a tricky area to pull off a BBS.. I struggled with my neck for months and months. Now I do a WTG & ATG pass with very "VERY" little strokes and as little pressure as possible. Cold water splash and if needed a little touch up with water only. I think one thing that makes a huge difference is to pull the skin as tight as possible and point the chin up as well it seems to make that skin even tighter.

I have similar hair growth on the neck. I do WTG and ATG passes and it looks like a smooth shave, but when I touch it I can feel the stubble.

I've mostly learned to live with it because it would take me a lot of time and irritation to get a BBS on that area. However, when I find the time, my technique for a BBS in that area is to use 1/4 circular strokes, starting ATG and ending shaving XTG. I do this carefully, with the blade mostly flat against my skin, to prevent cuts.

I've suggested this in the past for people with this beard growth and it seems to help them. It's the technique I use every time I shave. Maybe it'll work for you too.

Many of us have the same issue so there are actually a few threads discussing this. Use the search to find the threads and you should come up with plenty of ideas to try. Good luck

+1 to what OCD said. Check out his link to the picture of his grip for going sideways. Very helpful! I have noticed for me that it just took time to perfect the grip on razor and stretching the skin to get an ATG pass on my neck from E->W. After that it's pretty much BBS very easily on the neck except for days when I miss a spot (I don't continue to go over a section). Just keep practicing. That's the fun if it anywho.

What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one
