Thanked: 60Welcome to SRP! +1 on the advice above. The razor is good to go, I'd recommend a different a different strop from SRD or one of the other reputable shaving vendors around here. I got mine from Whippeddog.com. I'd say skip the hone for now in favor of a brush and soap. You can keep your edge in good shape for a long time with just stropping, and maybe some pasted balsa. If you decide to try your hand at honing, I'd suggest acquiring another razor to practice on so you can still have your daily shaver good to go until you get the hang of it. When you do start honing, I'd recommend the norton/naniwa stones as well. I have norton 1k, norton 4k/8k combo, and naniwa 12k. Don't forget to keep them lapped!

Big Ed, as always Sir you are keeping me honest.
And true to form and truth be told, there is a slight X stroke using my 3 inch strop. However the inconsistencies in my SRD 3 inch strop come from my own improper technique...the edge looks like a zipper in some places.
I'm looking forward to the time when I get it right in your eyes Ed! LOL.
Everyone enjoy.Malo periculosam libertatem quam quietum servitium

Sorry g-man, not trying to pick on you, it was just an observation from reading other threads. I made a 3" strop and used to just go up and down, I didn't really know what an x stroke was. My stropping evolved to a slight x stroke naturally. I then read a post by pixel describing the x stroke as being like a windscreen wiper, then I realised what an x stroke was so I exaggerated my stropping action.
Like I said, my bottle post was more of a missunderstanding
You are fine just the way you are. I am by no means perfect.

Ed Sir,
I never took it as anything other than an honest observation.
I appreciate your post but really it is unnecessary.
Keep me honest, and don't change because I don't want us walking on eggshells or vaulting over mouse-droppings.
