Thanked: 0AH HA Moment
OK, I will make a long story short - just received (yesterday) my sharpened razors back from Lynn - been waiting what seems like forever, only a short week or so...
Set up this morning, did a very light strop on the prettiest of the bunch - and set about shaving...only a day old stubble, but stiff none-the-less - did the hot towel, Proraso pre, Moss scuttle warm PR cream, C&E badger - stood there a moment, held my breathe and dove in-
I was only sure I was actually removing the stubble, because the cream was going away...the shave was almost silent, not that terrible scraping I had before...smoothe and fast...went over a couple of spots, just because I wasn't sure if I had caught the beard...no sound after all. Amazing, and all I could think was, "Wow, this is what it is supposed to be like..."
Pretty wild - and I now highly recommend a *sharp* straight - apart from the previously obtained bloody razor burn on my neck (5 bladed Gillette monstrosity I stupidly acquired while waiting for my razors to get here...don't ask - but I tell you this, it was the one with the damn *vibrator* in the handle!), this was my best shave ever.
I feel for the lesser mortals with duller blades.

Nice
Excellent. I am going to need to refresh my blade very soon. So I ordered a pasted strop from Tony. I think it has to do with poor stropping technique at the begining. O noticed it get a little dull after the first few shaves, but has remained about the same sense then. It still shave fine, but I know it could be better.

No don't say "that terrible scraping sound". If its a singing blade thats just the razors way of saying "Hi glad to make your aquaintance"
Seriously though, many razors are just very noisy and many are not. The more hollow ground the more of a tendency they have to sing because that edge is mighty thin and is flexing all over the place as it shaves. If you want quiet when you shave get a wedge. You won't hear a thing when you shave guaranteed. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

My two razors do make different amounts of noise (tone as well) and both were definitely well honed (JoshEarl for the Diamondine and Lynn for the Dovo). It is amazing the shave you get from a truly sharp razor though. The best two shaves I've had so far have been the first shaves on each.
I too dulled the Diamondine a bit with poor stropping and haven't managed to get it back to being as sharp as JoshEarl had it. I've got it suitably sharp again with the pasted paddle but it's still not quite up to what it started with, exuding that sense of sharpness that you can almost feel when you open it. My stropping has gotten better of late so hopefully I won't make the same mistake with the Dovo.
