Honestly, I feel like Revisors are a better value than Dovos. 5/8 here are their 5/8....they also have a HUGE selection of 6/8. Just convert the price from euros to your local currency and subtract 19% (the local german tax that non germans don't pay. I know you can get a 5/8 for as low as $77 CAD.
I personally like my Revisor better than my Dovo and I know other's have had similar feelings.

Thanked: 23I totally agree with the DE tack. I started wet shaving with a DE about 3 years ago. I learned a lot about grain direction and beard prep. When I started straight razor shaving a couple months ago it upped the ante on the beard prep and grain direction quite a bit.

Forget the DE and go directly to the str8. You want to get there anyway so why wait? All you're going to do is create another unused item in your drawer.
Keep your concentration high and your angles low!
Despite the high cost of living, it's still very popular.

Yes, I can definitely see where you're coming from with regard to Revisor's. I have an 8/8 and it's a real knockout...fantastic blade, great shaver! Have to think awhile in regards comparing vs Dovo, quite like the Bismarck...IMO there not that far apart in quality...and I would be hard pressed to decide between the two.
If you introduce price...with shipping, duties etc...if the Revisor came out lower, then I would go that route as opposed to a Dovo Best Quality, which is a great blade nonetheless...but know where you're coming from!!
YMMV...

I used to use the Proraso pre all the time, great stuff, now I cold shave, that's about all the prep I do, but once in awhile I'll put it on before,I find it makes no difference. Now after a shave, I may put some on after the alum block (which is awesome) and it's really soothing, great stuff.
IMO, can't beat the Proraso stuff, great bang for the buck, my favorites are the tub of Red, and the tube of Blue (only available as a cream)!!

I'm not sure I agree.... I shave with a straight most of the time, but I have an Edwin Jagger DE which I love for traveling, or for those morning which I wake up late and need to get the job done in a hurry (a DE is better than not shaving at all, and if you're in a rush.... those are the ONLY options!!)

Thanked: 0This is just a Thank you from another guy in a similar situation and looking to start straight shaving. I have similar skin issues, sensitivity, bad acne in the past, and lots of irritation from ingrown hairs. I gave up on store bought razors 2 years ago and have been using a DE razor with success. Using a single blade really helped with the ingrown hairs, as well as lots of lather time warming and softening the hair. I use Bull Dog sensitive shave cream which works very well as it seems to build and maintain a generous amount of lather. I'm also looking to start straight shaving in the next month and am currently looking for my first razor. The one you selected seems pretty nice and I may go with it.

I started with a DE before going to a Str8. As i am still learning the art i still use the DE for touch ups and for those areas that i haven't mastered yet(like my chin with it's seemingly tough as nails whiskers). And i agree, you can't go wrong with Prorasso.
