Default Razor Sharpening - Canadian style

    'Evening All!

It's the weekend so I've got some time to ponder life and all its wonders. One of the things (okay, the only thing)I thought about today was razor sharpening. I'm new to this so bear with me. Have any of you Canadians thought of using a skate sharpener to hone your razor? It would be a lot simpler to go down to Canadian Tire (our national hardware store) and have the razors sharpened there. Any thoughts?

I'm not Canadian, so bear with me on this, but.......

....wouldn't it be easier to just shave with your skates?

(...be sure and take them off, first!....)

    :rofl

that was great Lou! Coffee out my nose and everything.

    Gzb10:

those people who sharpen skates have no clue how to do a razor. Even if they did the wheels they use are far too coarse and would ruin a razor. Also the machines they use are not made to put an edge on anything. A skate is sharp when the bottom is perfectly flat and square to the sides, not when there is a cutting edge there. Also the machines take off enough material in one pass to turn and 8/8 into a toothpick in one pass.

I'm far from an expert in skating, but I thought skates were sharpened with two points, like an upside down "U"... not that that would help sharpening a razor in any way....

Will try the skate tonight. Only problem is, I was going to use the skate to slice tonight's roast...

Thanks to all for allowing me this bit of tongue in cheek

    Shave first.

For Monday, go down to Lee Valley and get yourself a Norton Combo.

Justme is right. I used to sharpen skates at the sporting goods store many years ago, and they did indeed have a shallow concave bottom. The test of the sharpening job would be to take both skates against each other like scissors, and cleanly cut newspaper.

sorry I didn't know that the machine sharpening was concave. I used to hand sharpen mine with a file and the test was to cut paper with them.

Lou, I like your new signature. Windows does suck. Good luck with vista all you guys! I am happy with my Unix based OS X .
