Sorry for late response. Shaving arm hairs and popping them half way up or higher are two different things. Shaving arm hair at skin level isn't hard to do and many times I can get a dull SR to do that.

A really sharp blade will pop hairs when you lightly go over them about 1/4 from the top.

I'll echo the mentor thing because your learning curve will really be accelerated.
