    Default Thayer's questions

I need some advice. I'm looking to get some Thayer's witch hazel to use after I shave and before I put on a balm (i.e., Proraso, Nivea for sensitive skin, etc.), and am unsure of which product to get. I'm hoping to get something with no stinging.

They have "astringents" and they have "toners". The toners are alcohol free and the astringents have 20% grain alcohol. My guess would be to get a toner, but I don't know if that has the same benefits as the astringent. Both products seem to have witch hazel and aloe in them - I guess those are the most important?

Now...even with the toners they come in 3 "flavors" - unscented, lavender, and rose petal...should I stay away from scented versions to decrease my chance of irritation post shave?

Any info would be great...anybody use one or more of these products that could give some feedback?

I've been using the Original white label for almost two years now with great appreciation for it. I picked it over the official After Shave because it has half the alcohol, but I wanted some for sanitary reasons. I figure a pinch of grain alcohol will finish any bacteria remaining on my face.

i've used the alcohol free toner with witch hazel and i can tell you this... if you've shaved in anyway to cause irritation, even alcohol-free toner will burn a bit. i've also experienced burning from trumper's skin food.

the other thing is that thayer's is one of the cheaper shave-related products on the market. why not buy both and see which one works for you? it could even be a lead in to using aftershave with alcohol in it... i know there's a lot of advice about not using any alcohol on your face, but i find that a nice aftershave rubbed well into the skin closes up the pores and leaves my face feeling pretty good.

Thanks for the info X and Jake.

Jake - I could technically buy both, but I figured if I could spend $9 instead of $18, I could use the money elsewhere....I'm on a student shoestring budget and can use any "extra" cash anywhere I can get it. Waiting for the Giveaway like many others...just anticipating

I've been using the thayers for years and have tried them all. They also have peach and the superhazel. The amount of Alcohol is small and unless you really do a number on your face they should not burn at all. If they do you really need to adjust your shaving technique a bit. If I were you I'd get the basic which has the lavender and aloe in it, its great stuff. I also like the superhazel its medicated and will freeze your skin from irritation. Its all great stuff I'd drink it if I could!

It has peppermint oil . I like the effect of the stuff but the smell has grown old.
