Thanked: 0Hey guys thanks for all the advice thus far! Yeah I was worried that the razor was the problem here. I'll check out the classifieds here. I updated my location, I'm in Texas. Would it be worth my time to get a sharpening stone? Not for the razor I currently have, but for whatever one I end up acquiring. Also if I were to shop online for a razor what is a reasonable to good price for something of good quality? Again thanks a ton for all the help so far, this forum is awesome I'm glad I found it last night.

Thanked: 375Zach, The razor you have, doesn't have enough width on the spine to sharpen it to the point of being shave ready. I've tried to sharpen this particular brand of razor and you can get it knife sharp but not shaving sharp. I used 4 layers of electrical tape to create the angle. Then it hit me that when you go to strop that razor, (if I would have gotten it shave ready) stropping it would have been the next issue. I don't think the edge would have ever touched the strop while laying the spine flat on the leather. Any touch ups would require taping the spine with 4 layers of tape again. These are just the problems I ran into without getting into the quality of the steel which I'm not sure about. Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but just wanted to tell you my personal experience with that brand.

Zack,
Thank you for updating your address! It’s very much appreciated!! Texas is a big state but hopefully there will be someone who can help you! I know of someone close to you but I don’t know what’s going on in his life right now, hopefully he can get a hold of you!
There are also members who may not have razors ready for the classifieds yet so I’ll get in touch with one who usually has something that just needs cleaned up and then honed/and his honing is excellent! If I find something out, I’ll PM you!
Your original post didn’t mention having a strop or a brush and shaving soap; do you have them? Please let us know!
Hang in there! We’ll get you started down the road yet!Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 0Thanks a ton! Yeah I have a strop, soap, brush, everything else just need a new razor. I was looking on amazon earlier and there were several for around $30 that had good ratings and supposedly worked. Can these be trusted, or am I better off getting something through this site? I did see some in the classifieds here that were around that price, probably closer to $40 or so.
