New Video by Lynn: Honing-Refreshing
This video was new to me and reflects my thoughts
on refreshing a razor exceptionally well. Highly recommended
video to watch. Especially the CrOx on the inside back of the fabric
half of a modern strop (any 0.5 micron abrasive, diamond, CBN,
CrOx).

Straight Razor Honing-Refreshing Straight Razors
In a nutshell a modern water stone hone in the range of 8k-16k is all the hone that a "shaver" needs
to keep his razor sharp and ready to go after it has been correctly honed. And with
the use of paste on the inside canvas it is possible to postpone the need of a hone
for those that get their razor professionally honed at the beginning.
This lowers the bar for equipment i.e. hones that are needed by a
beginner for the first year is now one hone or less.
My addition to this choice list would be 0.3micron film as used in the Pinnacle honing system
sold by Woodcraft (If it is still available). Least expensive choice.
Highly recommended:
Naniwa Super Stone 12000 grit in stand... (best value).
or
Shapton Glass Stone 16000 grit. (not better than sex but some might argue).
Never to be ignored is the Norton 4k/8k combo
hone. A true work horse and classic.
Well demonstrated is the modular paddle strop system.
Worth giving a good look....
