Zac, One other thought for you.
When I try to shave without taking a shower first I have a really bad shaving experience.
A full day of hunting/fishing or whatever in the outdoors leaves a layer of body oils, sweat, and dirt that will cause the shave to seem like I was "trying to shave with a lawnmower blade".
Losing that thin layer of crud after a good washing makes the shaving soap work like it should.
Good luck and stay with it.

You would probably benefit from meeting up with an experienced straight shaver to receive some one on one coaching.

I soak my face to soften the stubble, strop the razor with 50 strokes on the nylon webbing and 50 on the leather side and use the shaving soap purched here. I dont quite understand and i am getting a bit discouraged because it is extremely rough and if using a straight razor really shaves like this, i would rather my mach 3!. (Even a dull mach 3 doesnt pull and rip my stubble like the straight razor does). Any help would be great or a barber so i can feel what a good shave feels like since im sure i havent felt one of those yet (i hope)
When you first got the razor back from Lynn or Don you should not have stropped before using it. Stropping takes practice and you can dull the blade if not doing it correctly.
