First complete SR shave!!! Thanks SRP!
After nearly a month (since I decided to go to SR) I've completed a full face shave with my SR!!! That's a long time to wait for a guy who usually doesn't wait for anything! No nicks! I only did WTG strokes this time as well.
When I first started out on this adventure, I got a DE, cup, brush, soap, cream and a nice but inexpensive balm while I continued to research the whole SR arena. I started to learn to make lather and as well as using something other than a Mach3 or an electric razor to shave.
Later I decided on a SR (Dovo Best 5/8) and sent it out for a professional hone (a must if it's not absolutely "shave ready"). I had no desire to mess up a good SR.
I practiced dominant hand on flat parts of that side of my face first (side burns), then later went to my non-dominant hand on my side burns on the other side. Thanks SRP founder, Lynn, for your advise! It really set me on solid ground.
I also learned I should eat something (not just coffee) prior to shaving. If I don't, I tend to have shaky hands (and not just from nerves ;-).
What a sense of accomplishment I feel!!!
Thanks to all on SRP who've put themselves out there to help us newbies!!! Who knows, maybe by the end of the year I'll be proficient at this!?
Cheers!

Great job and yes it is a great feeling. The hardest thing about SR shaving is waiting for the next shave. I'm wondering if SRD has some 'Proprietary Secret Beard Growth Formula 2000' (PSBGF2000) hidden somewhere on the websight...

That's like a "textbook" ramp-up to straight shaving! If only I had done likewise when it was me. Congratulations! Your best shaves are yet to come.
Keep your pivot dry!

Congrats, keep your pace. Took me a year (3x weekly) to get full comfy with the act of SR shaving.
And a good DE shave is a great fall-back position. MOF, I now get better shaves with SR than DE with less irritation, I had heard this was true. It is...eventually. Now, if i can't SR shave my face, then it won't be shaven.
If you see Don Ferris (Anvil Bikesworks) out there, say hey for me and tell him to shave that damn rug off his face (and duck).Buttery Goodness is the Grail

Good job, the learning process is slow but enjoyable. It is a great feeling to accomplish some thing. When I started using a str8, I also learned that there is a TRUE art to shaving.

I've been SR shaving everyday since this post. Only one nick thus far with my dominant hand on the chin. That's right, I took one one the chin! :-)
Obviously I'm discovering how very technical the chin is to SR shave!
Need to start develop my ATG and XTG strokes around the chin and neck area. I'm in no hurry. WTG allows the beard to ready to shave the next morning. I need/want all the practice I can get!
Thx everyone for your support!
