Thiers Issard scales
Just picked up this TI, Le National, on eBay. I have never seen another Le National so I was wondering if anyone can confirm the scales on this blade are original or replacements?
When did TI go to the pointy scales, or have they always had that profile?

TI scales are pointed on both ends IME. Always have been. So I'd say they are replacements.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

These are generic scales found on many vintage french blades. I don't know if TI used them in the past, but it's possible. The pins look a bit mismatched though, so may be they're a replacement.
I don't think it matters too much, though, they are scales that serve the purpose and if anything are period correct. If you want more certainty about the original condition of a razor I think you ought to be looking at nicer stuff.

Thanked: 4249Not to disagree with Jimmy but at the beginning of the Thiers Issard Co the scales shape didnt have the pointed ends as you can see from this link: http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...rs-issard.html
Your razor with the trademark " Le National" registered in 1913 ( see the registration on this link: http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...istration.html)
Originally didnt have pointed scales. That said it is possible that the scales are original. It does look to me that the pins have been removed or played with at some time. Nevertheless im sure it will be a very good shaver, Enjoy!

This is impossible Martin. The catalog must be wrong. I have only been wrong once before and if the catalog is correct that would make it twice ....... add to that ........ have you read the SRP rules recently ........ IIRC the first rule is NEVER disagree with JimmyHAD ....... notice it rhymes ........ has a pleasing ring to it ........ anyway ...... I was wrong once before .......

Thanked: 44Just size the page to 100% and they will be the correct size. Makes it easy to decide what size and style you want.

Thanks all. I like to know what I'm dealing with before I monkey around with history.
