Thanked: 0New Guy
I am new to this forum and new to straight razors. I've been shaving with a double edge for a little over a year now and am looking to try a straight razor. I found an Ed. Wusthof 132 for $40.00. Is it a good razor, a bad one, did I pay to much etc. Looking forward to using it after I send it off for honing.

Welcome to SRP, randburr!
Most vintage razors, as well as German-made razors, are good ones. The condition of the razor when you bought it will probably determine if it is good or bad. i.e., is it pitted, rusty, have excessive hone wear. If you could upload some pics people might be able to tell you if the razor looks usable.

Welcome to SRP! As said, your vintage razor is likely a good shaver. But, you'll know once you get it back from a honing. Good luck!

Welcome randburr. You will likely get unsatisfactory shave in the beginning, it gets better though. You'll find the answers to all your questions here, and if you can't, PM some of the experienced guys for help. The fact that you DE shave won't help your straight technique as much as you may think, but the prep is the same for most guys making that transition. I used to have a time consuming prep when I de shaved, now I just splash hot water lather and shave with my straight. Have fun.

Looks like a nice razor. Make sure you have it professionally honed before taking it to your face. You want to increase your odds of success and reduce your variables in the event that you have issues during your first few shaves. Easier to find solutions if the edge is not part of the problem.
Keep your concentration high and your angles low!
Despite the high cost of living, it's still very popular.
