You guys the comma police? Is there some comma tax I don't know about?

My wife says I use too many commas. I'm in the process of writing a book and editing out a lot of them, along with other useless words like "that".

I'm a great admirer of the humble comma; though it seems in recent years to have fallen out of favor with the hoi polloi it nonetheless retains a timeless elegance and lends a graceful cadence to convoluted grammatical locutions.

I tend to use way too many commas in my writing. I used to suffer from a horrible hatred of writing, but alas, it's an important skill, so I contacted a writing tutor. She had me write a paper, and though it read well, there were waaaay to many commas. She circled them all and my jaw dropped. Since then I've been cutting as many commas as possible.

That's awesome that you're writing a book. I've attempted to write a book, and it's a whole lot harder than it seems!
