    ok sorry its been long but here is a razor its cheap but will it be good Whipped Dog Straight Razor Shaving Equipment and what would be the best strop to buy for a beginner the one i have is a buckingham and son

    The whipped dog linen and leather, Illinois razor Co 827 and the ruprazor frilly are all chesp starter strops. My pick would be the 827.

    which one is the 827? sorry i looked at them i dont see 827 anywhere

    Yeah, normal razors have 2.75" long edge, so that's slightly more than a 2.5" wide strop.
    You draw the razor across the strop at a slight angle, not completely parallel to its length, and the whole edge gets in contact with the leather.
    It's not a big deal at all, I'm not sure why it's sometimes made into some kind of a big deal.

    Can you draw a straight-ish line on a sheet of paper? How much more difficult it is to draw it parallel to one of the paper's borders, compared to at a bit of an angle to it? Stropping is the same.

    BTW the regular old european strops are 1.5" to 2" - my grandfather used such.
